In season two, each half-hour episode reveals a unique and astonishing location and an engaging cast of characters. Nashville, Tennesee:
Lost and Found on Jefferson St.

People are flocking to Nashville – Music City, USA. And yet of the tourists, transplants and dreamers come to town completely oblivious to the origins of that name. We discover the true history of music city through Jefferson St. the cultural center of the black experience in Nashville.. before it was erased by the construction of Interstate 40. We explore the lost history of the Jefferson St. Sound with Lorenzo Washington founder and owner of Jefferson St. Sound Museum. We then get a glimpse into the future of Jefferson St. with Saaneah the new ED at Jefferson St. Sound Museum.

Space Force, Go for Launch

The Good Road goes to Space! Well, almost, we go to Cape Canaveral Space Force Station to learn about the critical role of the newly created Space Force. From national security to every single rocket launch, Space Force Guardians are here to serve. We also discover the surprising roles they play in our everyday lives. Rocket and Missile Museum Director Jamie Draper takes on a journey through the nascent stages of the space program to show us from whence we came as we embark on becoming an intergalactic species.

Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico:
Salt of the Earth”

A journey through some of the unique ecosystems of Puerto Rico that highlight the critical role government agencies, University initiatives, and local communities play in the efforts of conservation and the fight against climate change. Rene of University of Puerto Rico’s Sea Grant takes us into the salt flats of Cabo Rojo. It’s the rare instance of a commercial operation having a beneficial impact on the local ecosystem. Rene then leads us into the wildlife refuge for migratory birds that encompasses the salt flats to learn about the many partnerships and efforts that help maintain this complicated ecosystem.

Gullah

An exploration of the myriad ways that Gullah traditions and practices impact contemporary arts and culture in the low country. Nakia shows us the deep African roots of the traditional sweet grass basket weaving process. Marcus Middleton prepares a one pot dish in the Gullah tradition on his family land deep in the low country. Quinten Baxter, producer and drummer of Grammy nominated Ranky Tanky, proves the Gullah tradition is alive and well in his music. We also learn how his parents inspired him to give back to the community he grew up in by establishing a music school and performance space for underprivileged kids.

The Overview Effect

If travel changes you then traveling to space changes you completely. In this episode we explore the overview effect, in which people who travel to space develop a new perspective on what it means to call Earth home. We meet the educators, entrepreneurs and rocket scientists taking the next generation of men and women into the cosmos. We meet Jane and Tabor who founded the start up Space Perspectives with the intent to facilitate as many people experiencing the overview effect as possible. They hope to achieve this with high altitude balloons that ascend into the stratosphere and change their passengers’ lives.

San Juan, Puerto Rico:
Island as Identity

Puerto Rico occupies a unique place in American identity. Wholey American and yet uniquely apart. We explore this paradise through the lens of anti-colonial art in the heart of San Juan, ex-pat poetry and spoken word in the shadow of the rainforest and independence minded activists at an old San Juan watering hole. La Bruja, “the witch”, takes us on a spiritual journey of art and identity through El Junque – the only rainforest that is also a US national park. We then discuss what it means to be Puerto Rican for her, and the 1000’s of other Puerto Ricans living on “the mainland”.

Holy River

The James River is the reason for Richmond’s existence, and yet, in the 1970s it was one of the most polluted rivers in the country. We meet the activists, organizations, and scientists that transformed it from a D- to a B+ with hard work, perseverance, and art. Holy River is an experimental folk rock band composed of partners Laney and Jameson that leverages their music and art to communicate a message of balance in the bedlam of modern life. Laney and Jameson take us on a journey through the Richmond parks system to see first hand the value of the James River watershed.

We meet some of the people making space for “off brand” music and art. From Jack White’s third man records to LoveNoise promotions, we dive into the other side of music city. We get a tour of the musical equivalent of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory – Third Man Records. Although we can barely wrap our heads around the sheer number of things they actually do, their mission is clear.
